Congratulations you finally joined The Ereader community, and now you need books for Kindle. But you want to avoid a large monthly expense for your books for Kindle purchases. What are your options? Well believe it or not, you can actually get free or discounted books for Kindle. Below I have listed 5 suggestions for doing just that.

Amazon Discussion Board

One of the most obvious ways is to go to the source. Check out Amazon’s discussion board for Kindle. You can see it here ==> www.amazon.com/tag/kindle/forum/ref=sv_kinc_6 This is a great place to find free new books and new authors. But you have to check this out often as some of these books are only offered free for a few hours or a day.

Borrowing

Starting in January of 2011 Amazon now allows books to be lent from one Kindle to another for no charge. The loan period is for 2 weeks, during which the original owner will not be able to access the loaned ebook on their Kindle.

Jungle-Search

Jungle-Search.com is used to search all of Amazon’s products. You can use Jungle-Search to look for books for Kindle and sort them by price. This will allow you to find free as well as discounted Kindle ebooks.

Free Ebook Websites

There are also various websites that are great sources for free books for Kindle. Some of the more popular sites are listed below.

www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/digital-text – Amazon’s free bestsellers.

manybooks.net – Manybooks’ motto is ‘the best ebooks at the best price: free!’, and this site has a huge categorized list.

www.gutenberg.org – Project Gutenberg is a large Ebook Library with over 30.000 titles.

freekindlebooks.org – The title says it all. This site provides a detail list and allows downloading directly to your Kindle or to your PC.

inkmesh.com – Inkmesh is an ebook search engine. You can search by title, author or keyword and you will find free download links.

ireaderreview.com – Has a daily list of free e-books.

freetechbooks.com – This site provides technical subject ebooks like engineering, computer science etc. You will need a converter for these ebooks as they are not in Kindle format. Please see the next section for a great solution for books for Kindle ePub converter.

Kindle ePub Converter

There are many Free Ebooks on the internet in ePub format, Google Books for example, but Kindle does not support the ePub format. No worries, there is a free ebook library management software called Calibre. It is easy to download and is a simple drag and drop process to convert an ePub ebook into Kindle format. You can get this software at calibre-ebook.com.
