The Nook or the Pandigital Novel?
So I am a little bit of a techie, but I want to keep things simple. I bought an Augen “The Book” about a week ago and couldn’t get it to work correctly, even with customer support and my own technical knowledge. Here are my priorities as far as having an Ereader:
1. INDESTRUCTIBLE (okay, I know that this isn’t reasonable, but which one is better? esp around children?)
2. Ability to download ebooks wirelessly, check email, simple web searches
3. Wireless setup is easy in a protected network
4. A few simple games
5. Reads 99% of formats
6. Easy to reset if I mess it up!
Thanks in advance for your opinion!!!
Of the two choices, the nook. However, I don’t need to tell you that no electronic gadget is safe around children. If you are not careful, and they get their hands on it, you can say goodbye to the gadget. It doesn’t matter how “sturdy” the item may seem to be.
PDN (the white one in particular, as it’s hackable and you can take advantage of the Android OS)

5. Neither one. However, if you hack the Pandigital, you can get Android compatible apps for free to use with it, i.e. Kindle, Kobo, etc. The nook can’t be hacked.

If you want something sturdier for a dedicated reader, definitely the nook. If you want more versatility, go PDN, but bear in mind that the PDN can be fragile because of the LCD screen and it’s heavier than the nook. Whatever you choose, make sure you get a sturdy cover. Accidents happen, even if children are not involved.
